We are a Manchester-based artist collective working with artists, writers, programmers and sound designers around the world to create video games and other forms of interactive media.

We believe games are art. A medium capable of expressing ideas, experiences and emotions in ways no other medium can.

Heat Assembly is an independent multimedia publisher supporting emerging artists and experimental work. We bring people together across disciplines and borders to develop, publish and share ambitious games that might not otherwise find a home. We are interested in work that is strange, personal, challenging and difficult to categorise. Games with something to say, something to explore, or simply something worth making.

Games as Art

We believe games are art. As a collective, we bring together people from different creative disciplines to develop our skills, share ideas and make ambitious experiences that reflect the talents of everyone involved.

Collaboration

HEAT Assembly is built around collaboration. We work across disciplines, communities and borders, bringing together artists, writers, programmers, sound designers and other creatives from around the world. Our community is the foundation of what makes HEAT Assembly what it is.

Education

We come from educational and creative backgrounds, and believe knowledge should be shared. We support our collaborators through mentorship, training and practical experience, while working with educational institutions and students to help build the next generation of game creators.

Respect

It is a difficult time to be a creative in the games industry. We believe the people who make games should be respected for what they contribute to them. We aim to give our collaborators meaningful creative ownership, flexibility and space to grow, while ensuring their contributions are properly recognised and valued.

The Future

HEAT Assembly began as an unincorporated association of individuals coming together in our spare time because we love games and wanted to make them.

We have since incorporated as a limited company, with the ambition of building a studio capable of creating games with the scale and ambition of AAA development without losing the people and ideas that make them worth creating.

As we grow, we want our collaborators to grow with us. The people who contribute to a game should have a meaningful stake in its success — and in the future of the work they helped create.
